Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – April 9, 2024 – The Arkansas Department of Transportation has awarded services stations in Jonesboro and Trumann as award recipients for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program in response to the 2023 Request for Proposals (RFP), according to an ARDOT news release.
Authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the NEVI Program provides funding for projects to build a national network of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 2030 along federally designated Alternative Fuel Corridors (AFC). The NEVI Program provides funding to state departments of transportation from 2022-26 to strategically deploy EV charging station infrastructure. This program is a reimbursement‑type program that provides for a maximum 80% federal share and 20% private share.
In Craighead County, the Love’s Travel Stops at Interstate 555 and East Parker Road was awarded $700,000 for EV charging stations. In Poinsett County, the Trumann Flash Market off I-555 was awarded $637,000.
Under the NEVI Program, eligible expenses are restricted to use on projects that are directly associated with charging an EV. The NEVI Program funding is dedicated to and can only be used for EV charging infrastructure that is open to the public or to authorized commercial motor vehicle operators from more than one company and cannot be used for other improvements to Arkansas’ highway system. No other Federal-aid or state funding will be used for the NEVI Program.
NEVI Program funding will be used in Arkansas to fund EV charging station infrastructure projects that (1) meet all federal and ARDOT NEVI Program requirements and (2) are located on designated EV AFCs or Interstates. ARDOT’s initial goal for this program is to focus on building out AFCs and Interstates.
