Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — June 23, 2025 — A Hoxie man is accused of leading officers on a high-speed chase through Jonesboro while intoxicated.

While standing before Judge Tommy Fowler on Monday, 21-year-old Zander Croom was accused of one count of fleeing, one count of DWI, one count of driving on a suspended license, and one count of possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. He was given a $5,000 cash-only bond. While setting bond, Fowler said Croom “places the community in danger.”

The probable cause affidavit said that on June 21, around 10:53 p.m., a Jonesboro Police officer was traveling east on I-555 near the Washington Avenue exit when he saw a white truck failing to stay in its lane.

The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled from the officer. The affidavit said the vehicle reached speeds of approximately 105 mph and “swerved wildly all through lanes of traffic and into the highway median.”

The truck pulled over near the Southwest Drive exit and the driver was identified as Croom. The affidavit said Croom’s speech was slurred and there was an “odor of intoxicants” coming from the vehicle. The officer also saw an open beer can, which still had beer inside and was cold to the touch.

Police said an initial breath sampling showed a reading of 0.16. Croom was then arrested and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center for further testing, in which a breath test on a BAC machine produced a reading of 0.19, according to the affidavit. The affidavit also noted Croom’s driver’s license was suspended.

Croom’s next court date has been set for July 31. According to online jail records, Croom was released from the Craighead County Detention Center on Monday at 3:15 p.m.
