Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – April 10, 2024 – The upcoming Earth Day Weekend Plant Sale, organized jointly by JHDC (Jonesboro Human Development Center) and Master Gardeners (MG), promises to be an event brimming with greenery and community spirit.
Scheduled for April 20 from 8am to noon at the JHDC “Ecoworks” building off South Stadium in Jonesboro, the sale showcases the fruitful collaboration between JHDC and MG, which has been blooming for several seasons.
The JHDC Ecoworks vocational program is a hub of activity where residents cultivate their talents in gardening, crafting, and eco-friendly initiatives. Supported by the dedicated efforts of Master Gardeners, the Ecoworks program has flourished, astonishing all with its abundant produce and eco-conscious endeavors.
At the heart of JHDC lies its mission to provide a nurturing home for adults with developmental disabilities. With a capacity to care for 109 individuals, JHDC offers not just residential support but also meaningful employment opportunities through its vocational programs. Residents engage in various tasks, including greenhouse work, recycling initiatives, and artisan crafts, earning a fair wage for their contributions.
Master Gardeners began volunteering at JHDC in early 2023 assisting residents with the maintenance of their raised beds and gardening area infrastructure. Throughout the summer, they dedicated their efforts to revitalizing the JHDC sensory garden, meticulously clearing it of weeds and restoring its health.
The upcoming plant sale isn’t merely about buying and selling; it’s a celebration of inclusivity and empowerment. Visitors can expect to meet JHDC residents who are deeply involved in the Ecoworks program, showcasing their expertise and passion for sustainable living. Plant sale attendees can also expect to meet and interact with residents who are more involved and knowledgeable about the Greenworks program, a recycling and shredding service offered to approximately 85 businesses in Northeast Arkansas, as well as those who work in the Handiworks program making artisan crafts through the Blue Umbrella, a DHS Program for art sales.
Proceeds from the plant sale will circle back to benefit the hardworking residents of JHDC, ensuring fair compensation for their dedicated efforts. Moreover, this event serves as a platform to raise awareness about the vital work undertaken by the Jonesboro Human Development Center and Master Gardeners in fostering a greener, more inclusive community.
Mark your calendars and join us on April 20 for a day of green thumbs and goodwill!
