Jonesboro, AR — (JonesboroRightNow.com) — May 3, 2025 — Police arrested two Forrest City women they said were involved in multiple thefts during April in which they used children to help steal over $4,000 worth of items.
According to an affidavit, on April 30, Jonesboro police officers were dispatched to a business for a theft in progress. A traffic stop was performed on an SUV that dispatch said had left the scene of the crime.
During the stop, officers met with several people inside the vehicle, including 48-year-old Evelyn Teresa Hurd and 27-year-old Shermonique Monique Robinson.
The affidavit stated that while getting the occupants out of the vehicle, officers noticed several stolen items from different stores inside. Meanwhile, officers were able to get video from the business, showing Hurd and Robinson, among the others, getting out of the store with the items. The total value of the items was $1,923.69.
Hurd and Robinson were arrested by police and taken to the Craighead County Detention Center.
The officer who had written the affidavit noted that they were assigned to the case as it was found that Hurd and Robinson were involved in several other thefts in Jonesboro throughout April. Video gathered of these incidents showed the two with multiple children who were pushing carts of stolen items while leading them through the stores.
The affidavit stated that the incidents occurred on April 11, April 26, April 28, and a second incident on April 30. Across all the incidents, the total value of stolen items was $4,373.71.
During the probable cause hearing on May 2, Judge Tommy Fowler found probable cause to charge Hurd and Robinson with theft $5,000 or less but greater than $1,000, theft $1,000 or less (all others), and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Hurd also faces multiple theft charges for another incident that occurred on April 4.
A separate affidavit stated that Jonesboro police officers went to a business for an already-occurred theft. A loss prevention associate said Hurd entered the store with three children, put items into a shopping cart, and they left the store without paying.
For this incident, Fowler found probable cause to charge Hurd with theft $1,000 or less (all others) and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Hurd’s affidavits both stated that she also was previously convicted of theft in 2022, with Judge Fowler noting 37 previous theft charges during the hearing.
Hurd is being held on a $35,000 cash-only bond for both of her incidents, while Robinson only has a $5,000 cash-only bond. Robinson was also ordered to wear a GPS monitor.
Both Hurd and Robinson are scheduled to be back in court on June 27.
