Darrell Byrd McElya of Harrisburg, AR, departed this life Friday, March 29, 2024, at the NEA Baptist Hospital in Jonesboro, at the age of 67.
He was born October 8, 1956, in West Memphis, AR, the son of the late Byrd Hill McElya and Earline Nix McElya.
“Bo”, as he was referred to, was a plumber for many years. He also did some bartending at the 40 et 8 Voiture 1521 Club in West Memphis. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and worked with paraplegics and repaired wheelchairs and provided oxygen. He recently did maintenance for Jim Tom Butler Farms in Harrisburg. He collected Razorback memorabilia and rocks and arrowheads. But, above all, he loved fishing.
He is survived by 1 son, Sean McElya of Williford, His mother, Earline McElya of Harrisburg, 2 sisters, Cathy Maxwell of Hardy, and Charlotte McKay of Batesville, 1 brother, Kevin McElya of Ash Flat, and several nieces, nep0hews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 10:00 A.M., AT Gregg-Weston Funeral Home in Harrisburg, with Brother Tommy Jacobs officiating. He will be cremated following services. Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. till service time.
