Cabot, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – February 2, 2025 – Something happened in the city of Cabot, Arkansas Saturday that is a story worth telling.

A young man named Masyn is seven years old. He battles Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).  Masyn wanted to be a police officer for a day.

So, early Saturday morning, Officer Masyn reported to the Cabot City Halll ready to work.

Masyn received a tour of the Cabot Justice Center and Cabot Fire Department with his family.

Then, officer Masyn received his first call.  A burglary in progress.

Masyn and his fellow officers responded. Masyn interviewed witnesses, worked with detectives to thoroughly process the crime scene, then Masyn worked with Arkansas State Police to locate the suspects.

A “Nerf battle” ensued. The suspects were arrested and taken to jail.

After the suspects were booked, Masyn returned to the Justice Center where he was met by a celebration. Just for him.

Masyn was surrounded by his family and friends as he was told he would be going to Disneyworld. This was his wish. His Make-A-Wish. His wish had been granted.

Shay Carr and her Greene County family sponsored Masyn’s wish. Her son, Colton, was killed in a car-train wreck near Marmaduke in 2008 at the age of 18. Each year the Carr family does something to “give back” on Colton’s birthday. That was Saturday. Shay and her family used a Facebook post to raise over $16,000 for Make-A-Wish. An example of what volunteers call “the magic of Make-A -Wish.”

“Masyn is the sweetest boy ever, and so is the rest of his family. I’m really lost for words,” said Shay Carr. “The Cabot Police Department went above and beyond for us. We can’t thank them enough for making this day the best ‘Disney Day’ as Masyn called it.”

Masyn and his family will soon be on their way to Disneyworld.

Veteran volunteer wish granter Cliff Carter of Marmaduke helped with Masyn’s wish. “God is in this story,” Carter said. “The Mayor of Cabot was in tears. A tremendous man.”  The City of Cabot’s justice center is brand new. The city is moving into it this coming Monday. “The very first thing the justice center was used for was to grant Masyn’s wish,” Carter added. “We broke it in right!”

The Have-a-Heart Wishathon for Make-A-Wish is a once-a-year event. Last year, the event conducted by the Jonesboro Media Group, KAIT, and hundreds of volunteers raised $467,966. Throughout the year volunteers identify children fighting illness, determine what their one true wish would be, then use the money raised to grant wishes. Wishes like the one granted to Masyn.

This year’s Wishathon will be Friday, February 14 on the Jonesboro Media Group radio stations and KAIT. The event will be headquartered at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Red Wolf Convention Center. Volunteers will work “roadblocks” at intersections throughout Northeast Arkansas. This will be the 27th year for the event.

Volunteers are still needed to help staff the “roadblocks.” If you are able to volunteer, you can sign up at this link.
