Update 4:57pm: Jonesboro Police Public Information Specialist Sally Smith says police have identified the victim from Friday night’s homicide as Derrick Johnson, 24, of Gilmore, Arkansas (Crittenden County).

Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – February 1, 2025 – An overnight death in Jonesboro is being called a homicide.

Jonesboro Police received a call around 10:17pm Friday night about an unresponsive person. JPD responded to the address 111 Daybreak. Daybreak turns East just North of the Southern Chef Convenience Store on North Church Street. The address is identified by Google as Cedar Park Apartments.

According to a JPD Facebook post when officers arrived, they found a male laying in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The post said, “this death is being investigated as a homicide.”

The JPD Criminal Investigation Division is conducting the investigation.
