Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 30, 2025 – While glass is no longer allowed in blue recycling bins, the city is providing other options as Jonesboro residents now have two ways to recycle glass.
According to a press release from Keep Jonesboro Beautiful (KJB) Chair Beverly Parker, any type of glass is accepted, including colored glass.
“Many citizens want to recycle glass to keep unnecessary waste out of the landfill. Using glass also helps reduce harmful plastic pollution,” Parker said.
One way for residents to recycle glass out of the landfill is to attend one of the monthly Neighborhood Clean-Ups.
These Clean-Ups are provided as a way for citizens to dispose of large objects or materials that normally go to the landfill,” Parker said. “Keep Jonesboro Beautiful aids in the city’s effort by manning the glass recycling and providing tips on keeping Jonesboro clean, green, and beautiful.”
Neighborhood Clean-Ups are typically held on the first Saturday of the month, with allowance for holidays and conflicting weather. The next Clean-Up is scheduled for Feb. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Magnolia Baptist Church, located at 911 Magnolia Road.
“The Clean-Ups have been a huge success,” Parker said, noting that tons of waste have been collected. “You do not have to live in the specific neighborhood to participate, but the service is for Jonesboro residents only. The service rotates to different sites each month to the convenience of those that may not be able to get to the landfill.”
Besides the Neighborhood Clean-Ups, glass may be recycled at the city’s Sanitation Department at 2650 Lacy Drive, adjacent to the city waste incinerator. This service is available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. A blue container is located near the entrance for glass only.
“Meanwhile, citizens are encouraged to follow the 3Rs of recycling – reduce, reuse, recycle,” Parker said. “It is important to find individual ways to decrease unnecessary waste. Pollution is decreased and energy is saved by not extracting and processing raw materials.”
