Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 16, 2025 – A K9 with the Jonesboro Police Department received a body armor donation from a national nonprofit on Thursday.

K9 Wolf received a bullet and stab-proof vest from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Massachusetts. Embroidered in the vest is “In memory of K9 Gabo, Jonesboro, AR – EOW 1/16/20.”

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc is a charity aiming to provide bullet and stab protective vests, as well as other assistance, to law enforcement dogs and other related agencies throughout the United States. Since the charity’s founding in 2009, it has provided over 5,800 vests to K9s across the U.S. at a value of $6.9 million, according to a news release from JPD.

Each vest is valued at $1,800, weighs four to five pounds and comes with a five-year warranty.

“This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom-fitted, and NIJ [National Institute of Justice] certified,” the news release said.

Any K9 at least 20 months old and activity working and certified with law enforcement/related agencies can receive a vest. K9s with expired vests can also participate.
