Lake City, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Jan. 3, 2025 – A Blytheville man found with drugs and a gun during a traffic stop in Lake City was given a $50,000 cash-only bond on Thursday.
A deputy with the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office was traveling on Highway 18 in Lake City when he noticed a vehicle in the oncoming lane swerve left of center on Dec. 30. The deputy got behind the vehicle and watched it swerve a few more times. After this, the deputy performed a traffic stop.
The deputy made contact with the 24-year-old driver and his passenger. The driver said the road was bumpy, making his vehicle hard to control. The deputy could smell marijuana from inside the vehicle, and when another deputy arrived, he could also smell the drug.
The driver was asked to step outside the vehicle, and when asked if he had anything illegal in the car, he said he had “some weed in a backpack” and a gun under his seat. When the deputy searched the backpack, he found several baggies of marijuana and upon detaining the driver, found another bag of pot in his front pocket. In total, the deputy found 28.8 grams of marijuana.
After searching the vehicle, the deputy found a loaded gun under the driver’s seat. The passenger was arrested for possession of a misdemeanor amount of marijuana.
The driver was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center, and during an intake search, officers found 12 Oxycodone pills and 38 Hydrocodone pills in his pockets. The drugs were turned over to the deputy and logged into evidence.
The driver is charged with one count of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, one count of possession of Schedule I or II drugs not meth or cocaine with purpose to deliver, one count of possession of marijuana with purpose to deliver, and driving left of center.
His court date is scheduled for March 21 at 8:30 a.m. and he was given a $50,000 cash-only bond. He is being held in the Craighead County Detention Center.
