Alma Sue (Stevens) Hester made her Heavenly journey home on Sunday, November 3, 2024. She was 86.

Born on March 11, 1938 in Black Oak, Arkansas, to Clifton and Augustie Stevens, Sue’s family moved to Marmaduke when she was very young. She graduated from Marmaduke High School in 1957, where she played basketball and served as Homecoming Queen. In August of that year, she married the love of her life, Tommy Hester. They remained married until his death in 2018.

Sue was a longtime member of Alexander Baptist Church. She read and studied her Bible and prayed for her family and friends, calling them out by name, every day. Her greatest joy was spending time with her daughters and her grandchildren, voicing her opinions even when they were not asked for. Her hobbies included playing word search, reading Facebook, watching Wheel of Fortune, and tuning into the news every night, especially World News Tonight with David Muir.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sue was preceded in death by her brothers, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Virnis and Norma Stevens, Herman and Doris Stevens, Hubert and Elva Stevens, Lee and Scottie Stevens, Hershel Stevens, C.L. Stevens, and Bill and Joyce Hester; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Waco and Berenice Hester; nephew, Michael McCarroll; and great grandson, James Salmeron.

Sue is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Vicky and Keith Yarbrough of Leander, Texas, and Kim Hester of Paragould; four grandchildren, Mallory and Grant Pickney of Paragould, Aimee and Lee Watson of Georgetown, Texas, Ashley and Michael Salmeron of Leander, Texas, and David and Chelsey Yarbrough of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Barbara Stevens, Bobbie Stevens, and Waca and Garry McCarroll, all of Paragould; 13 great-grandchildren, Zoe, Jack, Ian and Abbie Watson, Chloe, Bella, Aiden and Ethan Yarbrough, Dalton, Logan, and Addison Pickney, Jason Heine and Mariana Salmeron; and her lifelong best friend, Deleta Evans, who was more like family than friend. Sue will also be missed by the many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends she leaves behind.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home with Rev. Jim McNiel and Rev. Keith Yarbrough officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Finch Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Scott Hester, John Miles, Jacky Stevens, Kelly Stevens, Tommy Vanaman, and Danny White.
