Brookland, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Oct. 9, 2024 – After less than a week of gathering donations, two volunteers from the Woods Baptist Church in Brookland took over $10,000 worth of supplies to victims of Hurricane Helene.
According to the Weather Channel, there are at least 236 deaths in the southeastern United States being connected to Hurricane Helene and its aftermath as searches continue in North Carolina, where hundreds are still unaccounted for.
Woods Baptist Church Pastor Rick Hathcoat and Jerry Todd, Jr., headed out on Tuesday morning taking a box trailer full of necessities to the Crossroads Christian Church in Gray, TN, which is near Johnson City, TN.
Although they were not impacted as much as many in other areas, Hathcoat said the church was just north of Asheville, N.C. and they had been doing a good job of getting the supplies to the affected areas.
“We are taking over $10,000 worth of blankets, clothes, food, water, tents and other supplies for the Crossroads Christian Church to pass out to those in need in the impacted areas,” Hathcoat said. “We started collecting on Friday and the church women took some of the monetary donations to buy more of the needed supplies.”
Church and community members donated half of the supplies, while the church itself donated $5,000 to buy more supplies and finish filling the truck.
“They are part of those communities, and they know the needs of their neighbors and have been doing what they can help as many people as possible,” Hathcoat said.
