Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 25, 2024 – An Alabama man was found with drugs and a gun on Monday.

Around 9:30 p.m., an Arkansas State Police trooper saw a truck sitting on the shoulder of Interstate 555 with its lights on. The trooper approached the vehicle and smelled marijuana.

The trooper saw the driver, 41-year-old Dustin Thornton in the truck, who appeared to be asleep. After he woke up and exited the vehicle, Thornton told the trooper he had a gun in the vehicle.

When the trooper searched the vehicle, he found a handgun, 8.5 ounces of marijuana, THC vape pens and a marijuana pipe.

Thornton was charged with one count of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, one count of possession of a Schedule VI greater than four ounces and one count of drug paraphernalia.

He was given a court date of Oct. 3o at 8:30 a.m. and a bond of $150,000 c/s.
