Jonesboro, AR (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept. 23, 2024 – The man who reportedly crashed into an apartment complex over the weekend was charged Monday.

Brett Cook, 36, is charged with one count of 2nd degree criminal mischief, one count of driving while intoxicated, one count of reckless driving, one count of possession of a Schedule IV or V less than 28 grams, one count of no proof of liability insurance, and one count of expired vehicle license/failure to pay registration fee.

He was given a court date of Nov. 14 at 8:30 a.m. and a bond of $150,000 cash only. The condition of the bond is a BAC ankle monitor.

On Sept. 21 at 808 Commerce Drive, an off-duty deputy with the Craighead County Sheriffs Office heard a loud noise. When he went to investigate, he saw a white Dodge Ram that had crashed into an apartment building, according to the probable cause affidavit.

Cook reportedly exited the vehicle out of the passenger window and tried to walk into the roadway, after which the deputy placed him into custody. A victim inside the apartment was injured and transported to the hospital.

When Jonesboro police made contact with Cook, they could smell a “very strong odor of intoxicants” on his breath and noted he had slurred speech.

Upon searching Cook, officers found a medicine bottle with no label and four Alprazolam pills. Cook was then transported to the Craighead County Detention Center.
