Ladahlia Willodean Whitaker, a beacon of love and wisdom, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2024, at the age of 97 in Paragould, Arkansas. Born on August 22, 1927, in Rector, Arkansas, to Hollie and Verdie Cecil (Davis) Hardin, Willodean’s life was a testament to the strength and compassion that defined her.

Willodean was a cherished homemaker who dedicated her life to her family and her community. She was the beloved wife of the late Irvin Whitaker and a nurturing mother to her sons. Sadly, she was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband, her son Perry David Whitaker, and her brothers E.J., Ralph, and Ray Hardin. Her sisters-in-law, Mae Ruth, and Betty Hardin, and a daughter-in-law Karen Whitaker, were also a significant part of her life and have passed before her.

Her legacy continues through her son, Phillip Lynn Whitaker of Sheridan, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Lola Whitaker of Rector. Willodean was a proud grandmother to Brian (Anna) Whitaker, Breta (Matt) Dean, Bradley (Sharece) Whitaker, and Jason Laster. She was also a doting great-grandmother to Ashley, Derek, Shana, Matison, Tenlee, Baylee, and Brody, and a loving great-great-grandmother to Hallie, Koner, Leslea, Presley, Harper, and Aubree. Each of them will carry forward her spirit of generosity and love.

Willodean’s life was deeply rooted in her faith as a long-standing member of the Cappadocia General Baptist Church until its closure. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, and she lived her life as a shining example of the values she held dear. She was an active participant in her church and community, always ready to lend a helping hand and serve others. Her friends and family were the cornerstone of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Described as faith-filled, passionate, and wise, Willodean’s influence extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a woman of great strength and character, with a heart that knew no bounds. Her wisdom and guidance were sought by many, and her passion for life was evident in everything she did.

Willodean’s interests and activities reflected her love for people and her desire to contribute to the well-being of those around her. As a homemaker, she created a warm and welcoming home, not only for her family but also for the many friends and relatives who were drawn to her hospitable nature. Her involvement in the community and her church was not just a pastime but a calling that she embraced wholeheartedly.
