Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Sept 6, 2024 – It’s been a long time coming, but the newly formed Downtown Jonesboro Entertainment District is having its first event this Friday, September 6.

The Paint the Town Red Block Party signaling the unofficial kickoff of the A-State football season is set to take over the downtown area on Friday from 5:30-8:30pm. The event is hosted by the Chamber of Commerce.

The Entertainment District was passed by the Jonesboro City Council on August 6 by an 8-3 vote. The goal of the Entertainment District is to promote an atmosphere aimed at increasing business and promoting tourism in the downtown area. Patrons and restaurant-goers of legal age will be allowed to purchase and carry alcoholic beverages within the specified boundary without violating public open container laws.

Stickers, placards, and cups with the Entertainment District logo are being distributed all over the district in preparation for the first event. Restaurants and businesses who are participating in the district are required to post several documents in conspicuous places in their establishments.

Social media is abuzz with excitement about the new changes, but there are a few rules and regulations that the Downtown Jonesboro Alliance and Jonesboro Police Department expect you to follow.

Visitors are required to wear special Entertainment District wristbands at all times and must stay within the designated boundaries. Visitors are also required to use a designated cup with the Entertainment District logo when walking around in the district. Cups and wristbands are given out by approved participating restaurants.

Participating restaurants are denoted by decals on windows and storefronts of downtown businesses. No decal means no entry with alcohol.

The District is active weekly on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 10am to 10pm.

Sidewalk stickers placed all over the area notate whether you are entering or leaving the district.

Scannable QR codes on all sidewalk stickers, wristbands, placards, and cups take visitors to a quick list of all district regulations.

The Downtown Jonesboro Alliance also posted a video on Thursday detailing all rules and regulations with DJA Executive Director Sarah Doss.
