Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Aug 28, 2024 – A 77-year-old Jonesboro man was arrested after Jonesboro Police Officers responded to an accident on Monday night on Willow Pointe Road after hitting two separate fences in Jonesboro.

According to the incident report, the suspect was detained around 10 p.m. after being involved in an accident that caused property damage to the at the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) Post 1991 fence on Airport Road. After leaving the scene, the suspect struck another fence on Willow Pointe.

Both fences were valued at $2500 each.

When officers arrived, they removed him from his truck and placed him into custody.

One officer observed open container of Budweiser beer in the center console cup holder through the open driver side door, as well as two 30-packs of Budweiser in the passenger floorboard, one of which was open, and additional cases of beer in the bed of the vehicle.

Officers learned that the arrestee exited the Moose Lodge traveling east bound but was unable to maintain control of his vehicle, crossed the roadway, leaving the east curb, driving through the ditch line and into the VFW parking lot. The vehicle then turned north, crossed the parking lot, leaving the asphalted area and impacted the rear portion of a wood fence. He was then able to back his vehicle out, driving through the side yard, impacted an item in the grass, which dislodged the oil pan, turned north on Airport and east on Willow Point. The vehicle impacted a mailbox on Willow Pointe and came to rest in the roadway.

The suspect was arrested and charged with several misdemeanors, including driving while intoxicated, hazardous driving, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage only and possession of an open container containing alcohol in a motor vehicle.

In a separate incident, the JPD was dispatched in reference to property damage on Monday to W. Matthews Avenue in Jonesboro after another fence had been damaged the night before.

According to the incident report, when the officer arrived, the victim told him that someone had driven through his gate and his fence. The officer also noted that the farm gate was operable but mangled and a section of six-foot chain-link fence was torn from the posts and mangled on the ground.

The 16 foot red farm gate was valued at $500, while the approximately 120 feet of six-foot chain-link fencing with cross bars was valued at $1500.

The victim noted that a neighbor had witnessed a white GMC Terrain leaving the area but was not able to get a tag.

Although the officer was unable to contact the witness at that time, he was able to speak with him on Tuesday and he informed the officer that a white or silver Chevy Traverse or GMC Terrain had hit the fence on Sunday night, right at 9 p.m. He also said thought the vehicle had headed towards Gee Street but was not 100% sure.

The office then had the Real Time Intelligence Center to look for the suspect vehicle to show up on the Gee and Matthews camera.

Although there was no listed suspect at the time of the report, offenses included leaving the scene of an accident with property damage only, which is a felony, as well as leaving the gate open, which is a misdemeanor.
